Zephyranthes carinata (Pink Rain Lily)

Native from Mexico to Colombia, this bulbous perennial herb belongs to the amaryllis family and grows in seasonally dry tropical habitats. It forms clumps of narrow, grass-like leaves and bears pink, funnel-shaped flowers with six spreading segments. Rain lilies often flower after substantial rainfall, giving them their common name. This species has also been introduced to India. Its bulbs contain toxic alkaloids and can cause vomiting and diarrhea if eaten. Photographed in the department of QuindĂo, Colombia.
