A Zantedeschia brunelllo funnel-shaped bloom in rich shades of orange with subtle gradients of pink near the edges, curving inward to reveal a warm yellow interior
Zantedeschia brunelllo

Native to South Africa, Zantedeschia is a tuberous perennial that thrives in warm climates and is widely cultivated in regions such as the United States, the United Kingdom, and the Netherlands. This plant is recognized for its vibrant orange, funnel-shaped flowers that bloom from late spring through midsummer, each spathe encasing a central spadix. The flowers are supported by sturdy stems, making them excellent for cut flower arrangements. The plant typically reaches a height of 10 to 12 inches and a similar spread. In regions with colder winters, the rhizomes can be lifted and stored indoors to protect them from frost. All parts of the plant are toxic if ingested, containing calcium oxalate crystals that can cause irritation and swelling in the mouth and throat. The 'Captain Brunello' cultivar is part of the Captain Series, developed for its compact form and vibrant color, and has been recognized by horticultural societies for its ornamental value. Photographed in Armenia, Colombia.
