Tricyrtis hirta

Native to Japan, it is a rhizomatous perennial herb of moist woodland and shaded slopes. Arching hairy stems carry broad clasping leaves and clusters of star-shaped flowers. Six pale tepals are densely spotted purple, while the projecting central column bears colorful stamens and three divided style branches. It flowers from summer into autumn and slowly forms spreading clumps. New plants can be raised from seed, stem cuttings or division. Photographed in Virginia.
