Tricyrtis hirta

Native to Japan, Tricyrtis hirta is a rhizomatous perennial herb of moist woodland and shaded slopes. Arching hairy stems carry broad clasping leaves and clusters of star-shaped flowers. Six pale tepals are densely spotted purple, while the projecting central column bears colorful stamens and three divided style branches. Photographed in Virginia.
