Soraypampa, located in the Cusco region of Peru, is a high-altitude settlement and popular base for trekkers en route to the famous Humantay Lake and Salkantay Pass. Nestled in a scenic valley at approximately 3,900 meters (12,800 feet) above sea level, this remote area lies beneath the towering snow-capped Salkantay Mountain, one of the most impressive peaks in the Andes.
While Soraypampa itself is a small hamlet with a few eco-lodges and campsites, it plays a key role in adventure tourism as part of the Salkantay Trek, an alternative route to Machu Picchu. The surrounding landscape is dramatic and photogenic, with glacial rivers, green alpine meadows, and towering rocky cliffs. Most visitors don’t stay long, but the area is ideal for those seeking solitude, raw natural beauty, and access to one of Peru’s most memorable high-mountain experiences.
