Sincelejo, Colombia

Sincelejo is the capital of the Sucre Department in northern Colombia. The city sits at an elevation of approximately 700 feetabove sea level and has a tropical savanna climate. The city has a population of just under 300,000, making it one of the smaller departmental capitals in Colombia. Sincelejo’s economy is centered around agriculture, cattle ranching, and commerce, with major products including cassava, plantains, rice, and cattle.
Sincelejo is known for its Fandango Festival and the Corralejas, a traditional and controversial bullfighting event. The landscape surrounding the city is relatively flat with gently rolling hills, typical of the Caribbean interior. The region also forms part of the Caribbean lowlands, and much of the natural vegetation has been cleared for pasture and crops. Sincelejo is connected by road to Cartagena and Montería, and it has a small airport (Las Brujas Airport) with flights primarily to Bogotá.
