Santuario is a municipality in the Risaralda Department of Colombia, situated on the eastern slopes of the Western Cordillera (Cordillera Occidental). The town lies at an elevation of approximately 5,135 feet above sea level and is located about 40 miles from Pereira, the departmental capital. With a population of around 14,000, Santuario is renowned for its coffee cultivation, being part of the Coffee Cultural Landscape of Colombia, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The town is also known as the "Pearl of the Tatamá", serving as a gateway to the Tatamá National Natural Park, a protected area that boasts a rich biodiversity and is considered one of the few untouched páramos in the world. Santuario's climate is classified as subtropical highland providing ideal conditions for coffee growing. The town features colonial architecture, including the Maria Inmaculada Church and the Calle Real, a street lined with colorful balconies and traditional houses.
