Puerto Colombia Beach is located in the Atlántico Department on Colombia’s Caribbean coast, 30 minutes by car from Barranquilla. The town's main beach, situated near the historic pier (muelle), is a popular destination for locals and tends to be crowded on weekends and holidays. The water near the main beach is typically murky due to the influence of river runoff and sediment from the nearby Canal del Dique and Magdalena River basin, making it unsuitable for swimming by international standards. To the west of town, the beach becomes increasingly isolated. To the east of town, just beyond the town center, lies Playa Kilimanjaro, a private beach area that has gained popularity for its music events, youthful crowd, and social atmosphere. It's known among locals for attracting a trendy, party-oriented demographic, often with DJs, drinks, and a mix of locals and visitors. While Kilimanjaro offers a livelier environment with better infrastructure than the public beach, the water quality is still poor, and swimming is not a primary attraction.
