Puerto Velero Beach is located on Colombia’s Caribbean coast, about one hour west of Barranquilla in the municipality of Tubará, Atlántico Department. It lies between the towns of Salgar and Playa Mendoza, and is accessible by car via the Via al Mar (Route 90A), which connects Barranquilla to Cartagena. The beach is set along a shallow, protected bay with gentle waves, making it ideal for water sports. The shallow water extends far from the shore. What sets Puerto Velero apart from other beaches in the region is its consistent coastal winds, making it one of the most popular kiteboarding and windsurfing spots in Colombia. Several schools and rental shops operate in the area, offering lessons and equipment. The beach has seen modest development in recent years, with private condominiums, small hotels, and restaurants appearing along the coastline. Basic amenities like parking, bathrooms, and food kiosks are available, especially near the kiteboarding area and the Puerto Velero Nautical Club, which serves as a hub for water sports enthusiasts. While the sand is light brown and the water not crystal clear, the bay remains relatively clean compared to more urban beaches like Puerto Colombia.
