Photinia serrulata
A flowering evergreen shrub native to southeast Asia. This species is also recognized for its hybrid vigor, as it has been crossed with other Photinia species to create numerous cultivars. These cultivars are often sought after for their bright red young leaves. The plant has astringent and antimicrobial properties. The leaves specifically are regarded as diuretic, febrifuge, stimulant, tonic, and are even attributed with aphrodisiac qualities. Photographed in Bogotá, Colombia.
