Iris tectorum
Tracing its roots back to China, Korea, and Burma, this species, known for its lavender-blue to sky blue flowers, although a white form exists too1. Its cultivated extensively in gardens for its picturesque flowers and ease of growth. Its rhizomatous nature allows it to spread and cover ground. In China, its rhizome is used to alleviate inflammation, cough, and pharyngitis. The flowers make a good cut flower. Photographed in Bogotá, Colombia.
