Iris tectorum
Native to China North-Central, China South-Central, China Southeast, Hainan, Qinghai, and Tibet, this is an herbaceous plant in the Iridaceae family. Its cultivated extensively in gardens for its picturesque flowers and ease of growth. Its rhizomatous nature allows it to spread and cover ground. In China, its rhizome is used to alleviate inflammation, cough, and pharyngitis. The flowers make a good cut flower. Photographed in Bogotá, Colombia.
