White funnel-shaped morning-glory-family flowers grow over leafy vegetation beside yellow flowers

Iseia luxurians

Native from southeastern Mexico through tropical America, and also to Trinidad, this woody vine grows in wet habitats, often climbing into vegetation beside waterways or sprawling along their banks. Its oblong to oval leaves have rounded or slightly notched tips. White, funnel-shaped flowers have deeply pleated corollas with brown hairs along the outer ribs. Rounded fruits remain closed at maturity and have a spongy inner layer surrounding one to four dark seeds. In Colombia, it grows from low elevations to about 3,480 feet. Photographed in the department of Magdalena, Colombia.
