Originating from East Africa, this plant, commonly known as Busy Lizzy, is a popular choice among garden enthusiasts especially in the U.S. often grown as an annual in temperate zones. The habit of this plant is quite appealing; it grows in a spreading mound, ranging from 0.5 to 2 feet in both height and spread, providing a bushy appearance with succulent stems.
Busy Lizzy is celebrated for its non-stop blooming from late spring until the first frost, showcasing a spectrum of colors including pink, rose, red, lilac, purple, orange, white, and bicolor varieties.
Various cultivars have won the Royal Horticultural Society's Award of Garden Merit. Photographed in the central Andes mountain range of Colombia (Cordillera Central) where it has naturalized.
