Hippeastrum vittatum
Hippeastrum vittatum

Originating from Western Bolivia to Southern Brazil and Argentina, the plant prefers the seasonally dry tropical biome as a bulbous geophyte1.
It's been acknowledged for its medicinal potential, especially noted for the presence of isoquinoline alkaloids. These alkaloids exhibit a range of bioactivities; for instance, montanine isolated from this species has shown antidepressant, anticonvulsant, and anxiolytic properties, while other alkaloids exhibit anti-parasitic and psychopharmacological activities. Photographed in the Valley of Cauca, Colombia.
