Goeppertia warszewiczii
Native to Central America, from El Salvador and Honduras to Panama, this plant is an evergreen perennial herb of humid tropical forests. It forms upright clumps from underground rhizomes and can reach three to four feet tall. Its soft, velvety leaves have a pale green feather-like pattern on a deep green background, with purple, woolly undersides. Spirally arranged bracts surround tubular white or cream flowers, and the inflorescences develop yellowish and pinkish tones as they mature. Grown as a houseplant, it can flower indoors and is propagated by dividing the clumps. Photographed in Florida.
