Euphorbia leucocephala
Native from southern Mexico through Central America to Colombia, this plant is a densely branching shrub or small tree. It has small, lance-shaped green leaves. Clusters of tiny flowers at the branch tips are surrounded by narrow, creamy-white bracts, which are modified leaves. The flowers have a sweet fragrance. In South Florida, this ornamental shrub grows about eight to ten feet tall and produces its main display from late fall into winter as the days shorten. Its milky sap irritates skin and eyes, and the plant is harmful if eaten. Photographed in the department of QuindĂo, Colombia.
