Brunfelsia pauciflora (Purple-Flowered Form)

Native to southern and southeastern Brazil, this perennial shrub has glossy green leaves and clusters of flowers that change from purple to lavender and white as they age. The species can reach about 10 feet tall, although garden plants are often kept smaller. It has been introduced to Rwanda, Vietnam, and the eastern Himalayas. All parts are poisonous if eaten, especially the fruits, and the sap can irritate skin. Photographed in Pereira, Colombia.
