Brunfelsia pauciflora (Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow)

Native to southern and southeastern Brazil, from Rio de Janeiro to Santa Catarina, this perennial shrub has glossy oval leaves and fragrant flowers that open purple, fade to mauve, and finally turn white. Flowers of different ages appear together, creating its changing display. It commonly grows about 5 feet tall in gardens but can reach 10 feet. It has been introduced to Rwanda, Vietnam, and the eastern Himalayas. Leaves, flowers, fruits, and seeds are poisonous if eaten. Photographed in Bogotá, Colombia.
