Bomarea setacea
Native to central and southern Peru, this perennial climbing herb grows from underground tubers and can twine through surrounding vegetation for about 3 to 10 feet. Some plants remain more upright, reaching about 2 feet tall. Its narrow leaves twist at their stalks, turning the original upper surface downward. Small yellow to orange flowers grow in clusters and are followed by capsules containing rounded seeds with a fleshy coating. In Peru, it grows in the cloud-forest zone at about 8,850 to 12,500 feet. Photographed in the Chocó region of Colombia.
