Elongated pink and orange Bomarea flower buds form a hanging cluster on purple stalks below leafy bracts

Bomarea Pink Buds (species unidentified)

Native to tropical and subtropical America, these perennial herbs belong to the alstroemeria family. Many climb by twining stems and develop tuberous underground storage organs. Tubular or narrowly bell-shaped flowers grow in clusters at the ends of stems. Their flowers have three outer sepals, three inner petals, and six stamens. Their leaf stalks twist, turning the original upper leaf surface downward. Photographed in Colombia.
