Originating from the Indian subcontinent, and used as an ornamental bush in many warm countries. It presents a spectacle of vibrant flowers in shades of blue, lavender, white, or purple, depending on the variety. The plant carries a repertoire of medicinal benefits, making it a notable species in traditional medicine. It demonstrates anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, antidiabetic, antioxidant, antifungal, hepatoprotective, and antiplasmodial activities. The bitter juice extracted from its leaves or roots is utilized to treat serious catarrhal infections and applied to boils and sores to lessen swellings.
