Bakeridesia integerrima (Canary Tree)

Native to Nicaragua and northwestern South America from Venezuela to Ecuador, this shrub or small tree is grown for its yellow to gold flowers, often marked with red at the base of the petals. Flower clusters develop at branch tips and where leaves meet the stems. The stamens form a central column, and the rounded fruits have seed-bearing sections with ragged wings. In Colombia, it occurs between about 1,150 and 3,300 feet. Wild plants grow along streams and on limestone ridges. Photographed in central Florida.
