The breadfruit tree is believed to be a domesticated descendant of Artocarpus camansi its introduction to Oceania was facilitated through the Austronesian expansion. The fruit it bears is a staple food in the South Pacific and notably for its substantial starch content and versatile in preparation. This potato-like fruit is called frutipan in Colombia and is rarely for sale. Photographed in the department of Magdalena, Colombia.
