Native to montane forests of Central America, Arthrostemma parvifolium is a small perennial herbaceous plant in the melastome group, thriving in moist, shaded environment. The plant produces solitary to few blooms on slender stalks, each with four slightly asymmetrical petals in shades ranging from soft pink to magenta, surrounding a contrasting cluster of yellow stamens. Flowering occurs intermittently during the wet season, with blooms opening in the morning and often closing by evening.
The flowers, about 1–1.5 inches across, stand out against the opposite, textured leaves with characteristic parallel venation common in melastomes.
