Annona cherimola (Cherimoya or Custard Apple)

Native to the Andes region of South America, it is one of forty-three native Colombian species of the genus Annona with a habitat between 1,000 and 8,300 feet. The sweet, juicy, and fragrant fruit is heart-shaped with a bumpy green skin that ripens to a pale green or brown when mature. The fruit is ripe when soft and can be eaten fresh or used in desserts, smoothies, and ice creams. The creamy flesh has been described as a blend of tropical flavors, including banana, pineapple, and strawberry. The Cherimoya's flowers are fragrant and have a pale yellow-green color. Photographed in the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta, Colombia.
