Aloe dorotheae is native to Tanzania in East Africa, where it grows in rocky, arid areas at low to medium elevations. This striking succulent is particularly admired for its vibrant foliage, which ranges from bright green to vivid red, depending on the amount of sunlight and stress conditions. The leaves have a rosette growth pattern and are covered with small white teeth along the edges, adding to its unique texture. In sunny conditions, the leaves turn a bright red or orange-red, which is why it is sometimes called the sunset aloe. During the blooming season, usually in winter, the plant produces an inflorescence with tubular flowers that are typically a shade of orange or red. Aloe dorotheae is considered vulnerable in the wild due to habitat loss. Photographed in Florida.
