Native to Colombia and Ecuador, and northern Brazil, this herbaceous plant typically grows at elevations ranging from sea level to about 6,500 feet. The inflorescence is composed of a central dome of densely packed disc florets and a reduced number of irregular yellow ray florets, often giving the bloom a semi-incomplete appearance. Short glandular trichomes cover the bracts and upper stems, contributing to a sticky or resinous texture. The species has been used in traditional medicine to treat toothaches, throat pain, and fungal infections, and its extracts contain alkylamides and essential oils with mild analgesic, antibacterial, and antifungal properties. Photograhed in Ecuador.
