Native to Peru, this cactus grows in dry, rocky habitats and develops stems that begin upright before becoming prostrate. It can extend about six and a half feet in length. The sharply angled ribs have conspicuous, tile-like tubercles. Red, asymmetrical flowers can reach about four inches long. Photographed in Peru.
