Viburnum rhytidophyllum (Leatherleaf Viburnum)
Native to China, this evergreen shrub belongs to the viburnum family and grows about 10 to 15 feet tall. Its long, leathery leaves have deeply impressed veins that give them a wrinkled surface. Its cream-white flowers grow in broad, flat clusters. The fruits turn red before ripening to black. Fine hairs beneath the leaves can irritate skin and breathing passages when disturbed. Birds spread its seeds, and it has naturalized in Belgium and become invasive in woodlands in the Ruhr region of Germany. Photographed in Florida.
