Rhipsalis pilocarpa white flower with fine pale hairs opening from a fuzzy cylindrical green stem

Rhipsalis pilocarpa

This plant is an epiphytic cactus native to southeastern Brazil. Its slender cylindrical stems develop whorls of branches near their tips and become pendent as they grow. White bristles arise from small areoles along the stems. Fragrant white flowers grow singly or in pairs at the stem tips, followed by round, wine-red fruits that also bear bristles. It is classified as Vulnerable in the wild, although it is cultivated as an ornamental. Photographed in Florida.
