Rheum rhaponticum
This plant is an herbaceous perennial in the Polygonaceae family, native to southwestern Bulgaria. It regrows from a persistent crown and produces large, dark green leaves that are triangular to heart shaped, supported by thick, slightly ridged leaf stalks. Upright flowering stems rise above the foliage with dense, branching clusters of small greenish-yellow flowers. The species may have contributed to the ancestry of cultivated culinary rhubarb. The plant is harmful if eaten. Photographed in the department of Cundinamarca, Colombia.
