Kalanchoe delagoensis

Native to Madagascar, this perennial succulent grows about 1 to 3 feet tall. Its narrow, pencil-shaped leaves produce tiny plantlets at their tips; these detach and root, allowing colonies to spread rapidly. Orange-red flowers form clusters above the foliage. It tolerates prolonged drought and grows in sandy or gravelly ground, disturbed sites and along waterways. Introduced as an ornamental in Australia, it has become invasive in New South Wales, where it is a serious weed of coastal districts and inland slopes and plains. All parts are poisonous to people, pets and livestock if eaten. Photographed in MedellĂn, Colombia.
