Originating from Southern Mexico to Nicaragua, it is known for its swollen "trunk" and large fig-shaped leaves. It grows up to 8 feet tall in its natural habitat​. This plant's displays dense clusters of small, orange-red flowers held above its foliage on slender stalks, which continue to bloom for most of the year​. Photographed in Barranquilla, Colombia.
