Zamia huilensis pair of upright pale scaled cones emerging beside a pinnate leaf

Zamia huilensis

Native only to Colombia, Zamia huilensis is a cycad of seasonally dry tropical vegetation in the upper Magdalena Valley. A short subterranean or partly exposed stem supports a crown of pinnate leaves with firm elongated leaflets. Separate plants produce pollen cones or larger seed cones covered with tightly arranged scales. Photographed in Colombia.
