Native from Mexico through Central America and western South America, Wigandia urens is a large shrub or small tree of open slopes and disturbed ground. Broad coarse leaves and stems are covered with stiff irritating hairs. Branching clusters carry lavender bell-shaped flowers with five rounded lobes and projecting stamens.
