Vitis vinifera (Grape)
Native to parts of Europe, northern Africa and southwestern Asia, this deciduous woody vine climbs by coiling tendrils. Its lobed leaves accompany clusters of small flowers that develop into grapes. Cultivars are grown for fresh fruit, wine, juice and raisins, with green, red or purple berries and both seeded and seedless forms. The leaves are also edible, and oil is extracted from the seeds. Grapes and raisins are poisonous to dogs and can damage their kidneys. Photographed in the Valley of Cauca, Colombia.
