Viburnum tinus

Native to the Mediterranean region, this evergreen shrub belongs to the viburnum family and grows about 6 to 12 feet tall. Its opposite, leathery leaves remain glossy green throughout the year. Pink buds open into clusters of fragrant white flowers. The fruits feed birds, which disperse the seeds. Their metallic blue color comes from microscopic layers of fat droplets in the skin that reflect light. It has naturalized in New Zealand. Photographed in Florida.
