Bright orange Vanda aurantiaca orchid flower spike with densely packed small blooms emerging above green strap-like leaves

Vanda aurantiaca

Native from Mindanao in the Philippines to the Lesser Sunda Islands, this small epiphytic orchid grows in wet tropical forests. Its aerial roots attach to tree branches, supporting the plant above the ground. Thick, leathery, strap-shaped leaves grow in two rows along an upright stem. Dense flower clusters emerge between the leaves, carrying small, glossy blooms in golden yellow to orange. Each flower has a spur extending from the base of its lip. Photographed in Florida.
