Ulex europaeus
A large evergreen shrub native to the British Isles and Western Europe. Gorse is well-known for its vibrant yellow flowers, which exude a coconut-like fragrance. As a fire-climax plant, coupled with its high adaptability, has led to it being an invasive species in many locations. There are several cultivars, such as 'Strictus' and 'Flore Pleno', the latter of which has earned the Royal Horticultural Society's Award of Garden Merit. Photographed in Bogotá, Colombia.
