Trifolium repens
This plant is a creeping perennial herb native to Macaronesia, Europe east to Mongolia and the Himalayas, and parts of Africa extending south to Zimbabwe. It has naturalized widely, including throughout North America. Stems root at the nodes and carry leaves divided into three rounded leaflets. Dense rounded heads contain many small white to pale pink pea-shaped flowers. Bees visit the nectar-rich flowers. It is grown as a forage and cover crop, with bacteria in its root nodules fixing atmospheric nitrogen. Photographed in Colombia.
