Tradescantia sillamontana
This plant is a low-growing succulent perennial herb native to dry regions of northeastern Mexico. Its fleshy stems can form a zigzag pattern and spread along the ground before turning upward. Dense white cobweb-like hairs cover the stems and clasping leaves. Solitary magenta flowers have three broad petals and yellow anthers. It tolerates drought and is grown as a ground cover or container plant. Contact can irritate skin, while ingestion may irritate the mouth and stomach. Photographed in the department of QuindĂo, Colombia.
