Tectona grandis (Teak)

Native to Southeast Asia. This species is renowned in the timber industry due to its beautiful surface and resistance to termite and fungal damage and is widely cultivated in plantations across tropical regions. It is a large tree that can reach heights of over 100 feet with a trunk diameter of 3 to 5 feet. The wood of this tree is one of the most valuable timbers, known for its durability and fine grain. The tree's white flowers are small and fragrant. Myanmar's teak forests are particularly notable as they account for nearly half of the world's naturally occurring teak. Photographed in Colombia and Panama.
