Tecoma stans (Yellow Bells)

Native from the southern United States to Argentina and across the Caribbean, this evergreen shrub or small tree in the trumpet vine family can reach about 33 feet tall. Its compound leaves have toothed leaflets. Its fragrant flowers are yellow and trumpet-shaped. Long, narrow capsules turn brown and split to release winged seeds, which spread by wind and water. It is invasive in Queensland, Australia, where it spreads into native vegetation and along roadsides. Photographed in Barranquilla and Bogotá, Colombia.
