Stigmaphyllon ellipticum (Orchid Vine)

Stigmaphyllon ellipticum is native to tropical regions of Central and South America. This twining, woody vine often grows in forested areas and along forest edges where it can receive ample sunlight. Known for its bright yellow, orchid-like flowers, it typically climbs up other vegetation or structures, using its tendrils to reach heights that allow it access to more light. The flowers, which bloom in clusters, have five distinctively shaped petals. It can tolerate salt-laden air. Photographed in Colombia.
