Ruttyruspolia ‘Phyllis van Heerden’ is a semi-deciduous hybrid shrub first found in Limpopo, South Africa. It is a cross between Ruttya ovata and Ruspolia hypocrateriformis var. australis. Its many stems bear opposite green leaves and crowded, bristly flower heads at their tips. The dusky-rose flowers have spreading lobes dotted dark red or purple near the throat. Buds open successively, producing a long blooming period. Photographed in central Florida.
