Ruellia simplex (Mexican Petunia)

Native to Mexico, the Caribbean, and South America, it is an evergreen, everblooming, perennial forming colonies of stalks with lance-shaped leaves. An overused ornamental that is invasive and drought tolerant. The flowers are metallic blue to purple, with a trumpet shape and five petals. Cultivars come with pink and white flowers. Photographed in Colombia where it is very common.
