Rubus glaucus (Andean Blackberry)

A blackberry species indigenous to the Latin American region stretching from Mexico to Bolivia, encompassing the northern and central Andes. It's a perennial, semi-erect climbing shrub that can grow up to approximately 10 feet in height, characterized by round and spiny stems. This plant produces a fruit that starts green and turns a dark, bright purple when ripe, tasting bittersweet and rich in nutrients like vitamin C, calcium, and phosphorus. These fruits are versatile, used in various culinary ways, from juices to pastries. It thrives in the tropical highlands. It is called mora in Colombia where it is very popular. Photographed in the eastern Andes mountain range of Colombia (Cordillera Oriental).
