Rubus coriaceus

Rubus coriaceus is an Andean blackberry shrub native to Colombia and Ecuador. Prickly stems support thick leathery leaves and large magenta flowers with many central stamens. The species grows in cool montane vegetation and reaches open high-elevation habitats above 9,800 feet. Research-grade observations document it in Colombia and Ecuador. The fruits are aggregates of many small drupelets, each developing from a separate ovary within a single flower. Photographed in Colombia.
