Native to Mexico, the Caribbean, Florida, and parts of Central America. It is the national tree of Cuba. Like many street tree in Colombia, this one is a dangerous choice. The palm leaves are large and heavy and fall. The palm is very susceptible to beetles in parts of Colombia which will kill them. Photographed in Quindio, Colombia.
