Portulaca grandiflora
A succulent annual or short-lived perennial native from Peru to Brazil and Argentina, it belongs to the Portulacaceae family. Its branching stems spread along the ground or grow upward, and its fleshy, needlelike leaves have conspicuous tufts of hairs in their axils. Large flowers grow in clusters at the stem tips and occur in purple, orange, pink, red, yellow, or white. The seed capsules open around their middle. Photographed in Armenia, Colombia.
