A low succulent annual native to South America, Portulaca amilis grows in open sandy ground, roadsides, and other disturbed habitats and has become naturalized in parts of the southeastern United States. Its fleshy stems bear narrow leaves and vivid pink-purple flowers with five petals. A ring of numerous stamens surrounds the central style. Photographed in Florida.
